Exotic Animal
Rescue! As you may have heard, approximately 26,000 exotic
animals were seized by the SPCA, HSNT and Arlington Animal Control on Dec 5,
2009. We are helping by taking in close to 250 hamsters and gerbils, but do not
have enough suitable caging for all of them. If anyone has suitable caging
or supplies that they are willing to donate, or would even help out by buying
something appropriate to help, or make a cash donation, we would greatly
appreciate it. Please
email us if you can help! If you're interested
in adopting any hamsters or gerbils, for just a $5 adoption fee, please fill out the
Adoption Application. Thank you!

LAB PIGGY RESCUE!
We have been contacted by a local university asking us to rescue 18 more
laboratory piggies. We have picked them up and are now helping them to
adjust. They would have been gassed if not rescued. Newly rescued, the scared piggies (8 shown here in laboratory
housing) need lots of tender loving care and eventually, permanent homes.
Now the challenge is that, as most are aware, we are
struggling financially and have almost no more room. We have committed to
help these poor piggies, and if you would like to provide financial help, it is
much appreciated. It is through the generosity of you - our friends and
supporters - that we are able to continue our work to help little guys out of
terrible situations like these. Ultimately, these piggies need
permanent homes. After they have settled
in, they will be the happiest and most appreciative piggies anyone could wish to
have. The sad fact is that most people overlook these guys because they
are white with pink eyes. We also still have 15 of the 32 we
rescued
back in March 2008 that are still waiting for loving families to adopt them.
Please help if you can by filling out an
adoption application,
or donation below - thank you!

Please, Mom, Please?!?
Movies
Can Make Your Kids WANT THEIR OWN Guinea Pig Soooooo Much!
Think first!
Children's initial zeal to buy a guinea pig like they saw in the movies often
cools after a few days, weeks or months, and mom or dad is left with the
care of another pet. This is how most of our rescued guinea
pigs come to us.
Think first!
Guinea pigs are NOT low-maintenance pets.
Think first!
In 5 to 7 years (the average lifetime of a guinea pig), how old will your
kids be? Will they still want to care for a pet, or will they be
busy with school, sports and friends?
Think first!
Have your kids always followed through on their past promises to take
responsibility for a pet they insisted you buy for them?
Think first!
Do you really want to clean a guinea pig cage week after week? In their
5 to 7 year lifespan, you may have cleaned it 250 to 350 times!
Think first! How
about the monthly impact on the family budget for bedding, hay,
and fresh vegetables daily? Or taking them to a specialty vet for
care annually or if they're sick?
Please, we want you to enjoy the fun of guinea pigs at the
movies! But consider taking your child's new interest in guinea pigs and Sponsor a Rescued Petas a family through a reputable rescue group like Texas Rustlers, rather than
making an impulse purchase of the "real thing."
Many people are committed guinea pig owners,
and we applaud them for their dedication, love and commitment to care for their
animals for a lifetime! The rewards of companionship with guinea pig
pets is certainly wonderful, but it's not for everyone. If you think of
guinea pigs as "starter pets" or "pets for the kids," you and your guinea pigs
may both be disappointed!
Please consider giving our rescued guinea pigs a
second chance at a permanent, loving home
by not purchasing from a pet store or breeder (that may care more for profit, not the piggies)!

"Life
is as dear to a mute creature as it is to man. Just as one wants happiness
and fears pain, just as one wants to live and not die, so do other
creatures."

quote from his holiness the Dalai Lama
Did you know? Quite often,
people think that rescued piggies have been horribly neglected or
abused. This is unfortunately true some of the time, but most guinea pigs at
Texas Rustlers are given up due to children tiring of them, and they are
perfectly healthy and well adjusted. In fact, our piggies are given
attention by a qualified guinea pig veterinarian when needed, and are under
the watchful care of Rescue volunteers, who feed them optimum diets which
were often lacking in their former homes. Rescued piggies may be shy at
first until they get used to their new, loving owners, but be assured they
are well taken care of as they wait for their permanent homes.
Your used toner cartridges mean $$$ to help us care for the rescued piggies,
plus recycling helps the environment. We can accept the following laser,
inkjet and toner brands: Lexmark Dell Hewlett-Packard
Brother Canon Kodak Simply bring your cartridges to the
